About Duda Sod Duda Sod took root in the early 1970s in Oviedo, Florida as the residential and commercial growth in the state began a rapid ascent. Sod became the newest commodity for the agricultural division of DUDA, a family-owned and -operated land company that had been growing vegetables, citrus and sugarcane in the state since the mid 1920s. Walter A. Duda, a member of the third generation of the Duda family and leader of the farm division, took on the challenge to establish this new product. Following research into the needs and desires of area sod customers, Duda made a bold decision to produce more than just the popular Bahia grass varieties of the day, adding St. Augustine and other warm weather varieties. The operation quickly expanded to other Florida locations, all strategically close to market areas; Cocoa, LaBelle, Ft. Lonesome and Hastings. The company later expanded its sod production into Donalsonville, Georgia and McAllen, Texas. Duda Sod has built a solid reputation for its quality varieties of sod and turfgrass to accommodate the warmer climates of the Southeast and south Texas.
